I love a cup of coffee (I’m also a fan of tea), so when I moved to the city, I went in search of the best coffee shops in Lincoln.
I’ve visited all these places, and these days, I still split my time between them; however, I have a couple of favourites. My all-time favourite coffee shop is 200 Degrees. Rising Cafe and Coffee Aroma are also pretty cosy, and Stokes is a unique place to eat and drink.
There are loads more, but if you’re after top-rated independent coffee shops, check out the below.

1. 200 Degrees Coffee Shop – Cornhill Quarter

My go-to coffee shop in Lincoln is 200 Degrees. It’s located in the Cornhill Quarter, close to the bus and train stations, and has a great vibe. The indoor seating area is large, cosy, and welcoming, with wooden floors and a warm retro-industrial decor.
It’s an easy spot to grab a coffee, relax with friends and unwind while planning your day in Lincoln.
Bonus for remote workers! When I want somewhere to work from, I usually head here. The walls are covered in sockets, and there’s a variety of seating, from tables and chairs to a cosy corner. The coffee is damn good, and there are a selection of tasty pastries.
- The cost of my coffee choice: A latte goes for £3.80. There are also seasonal specials that can be pretty tasty.
- Address: 34 & 35 Sincil St, Lincoln, LN5 7ET

2. Coffee Aroma – Lincoln High Street

My second favourite coffee shop in Lincoln is Coffee Aroma, located just off the High Street near the city’s old gates. It’s a hub of quirky art, energy, and comfy furniture.
It’s another great place to unwind while you’re exploring Lincoln.
It features a standard coffee menu, loose teas, and a selection of pastries. But what makes this place really special is its filter coffee menu, which changes weekly. They provide a global selection of coffee beans from Colombia to Rwanda, which you can experiment with.
It is suitable for remote workers. Soft lounge music plays in the background, but this is also another top spot for working out of the office.
- The cost of my coffee choice: A latte costs £4.00, but today I went for a pistachio latte at £4.45
- Address: 24 Guildhall Street, Lincoln, LN1 1TR
3. Rising Cafe – Near Brayford Wharf

More of a cafe than a coffee shop (as the name suggests) but still serving great coffee, this place is located in the Alive Church on Newland. It’s part of a not-for-profit business, with proceeds from the cafe going to help people with drug and alcohol addiction.
Rising Cafe features vintage-themed decor and friendly staff. The food is incredible, including fresh smoothies and mains like sweetcorn fritters with avocado and egg (one of my favourites on the menu).
It’s a lovely place with a meaningful cause, perfect for catching up with friends. It’s also totally possible to just go here for a coffee. The leather sofas and armchairs make for a comfy coffee stop!
- The cost of my coffee choice: A latte costs £3.30. I also enjoy the smoothies at £4.99
- Address: 22 Newland, Lincoln, LN1 1XD
4. Coffee Culture – Bailgate/Cathedral Quarter

Modern and sophisticated, Coffee Culture is a beautiful independent coffee shop in the heart of Lincoln’s Bailgate area (where the Cathedral is located). Characterised by warm tones, comfy leather chairs and soft jazz blues playing in the background, it’s a relaxing spot to grab a coffee.
I enjoy stopping here when I’m in the Bailgate. Although it does get quite busy, it is never too loud. The coffee shop is relatively small compared to the others I’ve mentioned above.
Inside, the tables are almost too small for laptops, and there aren’t many sockets either, so I don’t recommend it as a “coffee and work” kind of place.
- The cost of my coffee choice: A latte costs £3.40.
- Address: 82 Bailgate, Lincoln LN1 3AR
5. Coffee Depot – Near Brayford Wharf
Slightly out of town, Coffee Depot is a hidden gem. It’s the cosiest coffee shop on this list, but it’s small, so be mindful that it can get quite packed during rush hour. We arrived during lunch and were hard-pressed to get a table, but we were lucky in the end.
Although small, it has a lot of character. Quirky, vintage, and warm, it has a sofa area among the tables, board games, and a book exchange on the shelves. Homemade cakes and a wide selection of drinks make it worth visiting.
It’s good for remote workers! The university is across the road, so it’s popular with students. The place is also well-set up for remote workers. I noticed many plug sockets on the walls, and the tables are large enough to work from.
- The cost of my coffee choice: £3.40 for a latte
- Address: 43A Carholme Rd, Lincoln LN1 1RN
6. GRAND Coffee House – Cornhill Quarter

Located in Lincoln’s central bus station, GRAND is another one of my favourite cosy coffee shops in Lincoln. I’ll go here if I’m running early for my train or bus and want somewhere to chill. Inside, it has plenty of seating, including comfy sofas. There’s also a little outdoor seating area along a pedestrianised square.
The food is decent, and the menu features the norm, but it’s the warm atmosphere, coffee, and cakes that make this place a good choice.
If you like to spark up conversations with locals, there are plenty of Lincolnians (is that how it’s said?) visiting this coffee shop. Almost every time I stop by here, I’ll end up in a conversation of sorts with someone.
In fact, this was the first place I was referred to as “duck,” a local term of endearment similar to sweetheart or darling.
- The cost of my coffee choice: £3.65 for my standard latte.
- Address: Norman Street LN5 7 Lincoln, UK
7. Yolo – St Marks Shopping Centre

A 5-minute walk out of Lincoln town centre, YOLO is new to the coffee scene. It’s part of the redevelopment of St Marks Shopping Centre, which includes Stack Lincoln, a venue offering street food, drinks and entertainment.
YOLO is really nice inside. Bright and airy, it’s a modern coffee shop opposite the courthouse, perfect for catching up with friends. It also serves nice food. The last time I was there, I had avocado on toast with poached eggs and was pleased with the amount of avocado spread on my bread. My go-to latte was also tasty.
Suitable for remote workers. There are plug sockets on the walls and under the benches, and every time I’ve visited, it’s never been too busy. I’ve managed to get work done without distractions.
- The cost of my coffee choice: The latte costs £3.25
- Address: 151 High St, Lincoln LN5 7AA
8. Madame Waffle Coffee Shop – Lincoln High Street
Madame Waffle could be considered a coffee shop/restaurant. They promote themselves as coffee + waffles, but it’s perfectly okay to go in just for a coffee. They serve an excellent selection of waffle-based dishes alongside their in-house roasted coffee beans.
If you’re interested in exploring filter coffees, Madame Waffle has a Filter Bar with a range of brewing methods, including Chemex, V60, and Aeropress. The baristas are always keen to provide more information.
The inside is lovely. There are three floors, so there’s quite a lot of seating. I always end up being seated in the second-floor dining room, but there’s also the street level and basement. The decor is like a spruced-up Victorian house, with a retro ambience and bold colours helping to make it one of my favourite coffee shops in Lincoln.
- The cost of my coffee choice: Latte, £3.60
- Address: 285 High Street, Lincoln
9. Stokes Tea & Coffee – High Bridge Cafe

Stokes High Bridge Cafe is an iconic cafe located in the famous Tudor building on High Bridge. Although it’s more of a cafe than a coffee shop, it’s one of Lincoln’s crowning glories.
The 1540 building, with its beautiful half-timbered frame construction, is steeped in history and offers an atmosphere deep-rooted in heritage. It’s really quite a unique place to visit and is certainly one of the best coffee shops in Lincoln.
Fun fact >> The High Bridge, built around 1160, is the only Medieval bridge in the country that still has buildings on it!
- The cost of my coffee choice: £3.90 for my fav latte.
- Address: 207-209 High Street, Lincoln, LN5 7AU
10. CBD Coffee Lounge – Near The Strait
Finally, the CBD Coffee Lounge is the tenth-best coffee shop in Lincoln. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I visited, but inside, it’s just like any other cosy coffee shop, with a really laid-back vibe.
If you want to experiment with CBD coffee, this is the place. They also sell normal hot drinks and a variety of snacks, including CBD-infused treats. Their Facebook page has tons of information about the benefits of CBD, which can help with anxiety and reduce inflammation.
- The cost of my coffee choice: £3.00 for a standard latte
- Address: 13 Garmston St, Lincoln LN2 1HZ
